Chapter 8: The Ephemeral Virtue

8.1 Morality as Fashion

8.1.1 The High-Velocity Change

In engineering, you need “Fixed Points.” You need a datum. You need something that does not move, so you can measure everything else against it.

The West has no fixed points. Their morality is High-Velocity Fashion.

Take the year 2008. In that year, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton both stated that marriage was between a man and a woman. This was the “progressive” consensus. By 2015, anyone who held that view was a bigot. By 2024, the debate has moved so far that the very definition of “woman” is a fireable offense.

A Builder looks at this and asks: What changed? Did we discover new physics? Did the biology of the human species mutate in 10 years? No. The Fashion changed.

8.1.2 Planned Obsolescence of the Soul

The West treats its “Values” like it treats its electronics: with Planned Obsolescence.

They are constantly “upgrading” their moral software. But unlike a software upgrade that fixes bugs, these upgrades often introduce bugs to create a need for the next upgrade. It is a “Purity Spiral.” To stay in the elite, you must adopt the new value before the “Trash” does. Once the common people accept a value, the elite must discard it and find something more “progressive” (i.e., more niche and expensive).

8.2 The Lack of First Principles

8.2.1 They Have No Dharma

In the East, we have the concept of Dharma (or Tao, or Li). These are the “Natural Laws” of the human condition. They don’t change because the calendar changes. They are the “Source Code.”

The West has deleted the Source Code. They believe that “Truth” is just whatever the majority (or the loudest minority) agrees on today.

8.3 The Drift

8.3.1 A Ship Without a Rudder

When you have no anchor and no rudder, you don’t “travel.” You Drift.

The West is drifting toward the rocks. They call it “Progressive Evolution,” but it is just the random motion of a system that has lost its guidance.

The Builder sees a system that has entered divergent oscillation. The swings are getting wider and faster. The system is shaking itself to pieces because it has no internal “Restoring Force.”

8.4 The Failure of Liberalism

Liberalism was supposed to be a “neutral” framework where different people could live together. It was supposed to be the “Traffic Rules.”

But Liberalism turned out to be a Cannibal. It ate the very things that made it possible—Family, Religion, and Tradition. It claimed to be a “tool,” but it acted like a “virus.” It dissolved the social glue, and now it wonders why the society is falling apart.

You cannot build a house out of “Traffic Rules.” You need bricks. And the West has ground all its bricks into dust to make the road smoother. Now the road is perfect, but there is nowhere left to live.
